Controll Millumin from Spyder X20 via UDP

We are looking to control Millumin from our Spyder X20. "Advanced" (the X20 software control) allows for commands to be sent via TCP or UDP; Millumin only lists OSC as an option. I have tried sending commands such as follows from Advanced to Millumin:

IP: 192.168.1.3 (IP address of Millumin computer)
Port: 5000
Command: /millumin/action/launchNextColumn

We have successfully used Qlabs as an intermediary where we send a UDP command to Qlabs and then Qlabs sends an OSC command to Millumin. This is a bit messy and we would much rather send a UDP command from Advanced directly to Millumin.

My understanding is that OSC runs on top of UDP. Is there any way to get this to work?

Hi !

Bravo for your new update !! Love it ! I've downloaded effects from ISF (with .fs extension ) and I would like to know if week-end can add it to the library of Millumin ? Where should I locate that file ?

Restricting a layer to a mapping surface

Is there a way to restrict a layer to a mapping surface without forcing that item to map to the surface in it's entirety? What I am looking for is basically an equivalent to "stage tiers" in WATCHOUT, where a layer can be restricted to a certain "tier".

In Millumin, the desired behavior it to be able to adjust the size and position etc... of a layer which is "free-mapped" onto a surface, but without that layer's content spilling on to the canvas areas outside of the selected mapping surface.

Getting an always coherent screens configuration using 2 matrox tripleheads in a fixed installation

Hi there! Thanks for all the hard work & brilliance of the Millumin team to create this amazing software.

I'm using a Mac Pro black cylinder to run a fixed installation in a showroom with 6 projectors by using two Matrox Triple Heads to deliver the outputs. Millumin V2 works fine controlling & running the media smoothly. Millumin detects both cards & we already have selected the configuration of every desired output.

The thing that I have encountered to be problematic is the point that, being fixed & as 6 projectors must be manually powered up and down, sometimes, when the Mac Pro is powered up (all projectors already turned on) sometimes they take different configurations in defining the order of the tripleheads or resolutions, as the client must manually power it up, it is sometimes frustrating for them trying to setup again the desired outputs and leave everything OK to let the installation work the rest of the day. This happens on a daily basis so it takes a lot of effort to give support.

Do you know if there's a way to fix the outputs to their respective HDMIs that lead to the projectors? Any kind of software that runs on startup & checks the status of the outputs to always have a coherent configuration of the tripleheads? Or does it requiere a king of manual coding hack? We will greatly appreciate any suggestion or solution you may share with us & the community :) I believe this is something that will ease on the introduction of more Millumin based installations, ours rocks with it!

Hackintosh for Millumin

Hi all
New to the forums here, been using Millumin for a while.

I was looking at some new Millumin systems, but the current Apple line-up doesn't really make sense for dedicated media servers.
We own a couple of maxed out 2015 rMBP's and data paths, but I was looking for something more powerful, and perhaps not already four years old.

I was wondering if people are building purpose built hackintoshes for Millumin?
Stability seems like a big issue, although it does seem possible to get it right.
A search on these forums didn't turn up a dedicated hackintosh thread, maybe this could become one?

Anyone willing to share their experiences?

Lights & circuits

Hi,
(excuse my english)
I have a problem with circuits in Millumin 2.18.h

I have connected my Lights to my computer with DMX device "UltraDMX Micro" (DMXKing)
In Millumin, the window "Manage device" shows me my DMX device with the green dot (meaning it's OK)
The DMX chanels of my lights are well assigned.
I have selected "DMX device" in the little window appearing when you click on the little gearing in the panel of each light.
I have checked in the "DMX Panel"/Monitor : I can control my light moving the #1, #2, #3 ...
I have grouped my lights in some Circuits.

Now, here is my problem :

When I come back to the Dashboard/Lights, I can definetly not control the intensity of my lights !
In the Panel "Circuit Sub Group" there is the name of my circuit and the intensity. That's all.
When I click and slide on the "100%" (as usual) nothing changes.
WHen I click on the "100%" to edit it and write 0%, The "0" stays but my lights are not turning off and when I select another Circuit and then come back to the first circuit, it is still at 100% !
I don't have any idea to fix this problem.
Does anyone have the same ?
Does anyone know the solution ?

Thank you for your answers ...

I can't find any info on how to use the "screen capture source" mentioned in the June 6th release?

Anyone know how to get that going?

Backup System Recommendations

I have 2 Mac Pro computers. One Mac Pro is the show computer and the 2nd is the Backup computer.

Both Mac Pro are running Millumin V1.   If the 1st Mac Pro crashes, I want to have the ability to seamlessly switch the 3 projector outputs and the 2 Ethernet camera inputs to the 2nd (Backup) Mac Pro without stopping the show/ alerting the audience.

I've already tried (unsuccessfully) using three Spark D'fusers w/ TH2G and then a Datapath X4

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Media selection

Is there a way to select the media in a group?

Not to compare but to illustrate...

In Watchout you can lasso any number of elements, with keyframes, and move them to close a hole or insert other media.

Also,  with control E, in Watchout, you can select the media starting at the playhead position to the end of the timeline with keyframes.

I am currently working on a project that has over 200 elements in a single timeline.  Shift double clicking to select chunks,  double clicking and holding shift, in a little clunky especially if towards the start of the timeline.

Is it in the works to be able to select media in a timeline,  not the dashboard, and create a separate timeline like the new feature for dashboard compositions?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello,

I'm going to run a show, where I have 4 HD projectors in portrait mode.
So I have to rotate the outputs by 90 degrees.

What is the best way to do this?

using Piezo's as a midi controller

Hi,

I'm new to the Millumin world.
I'm looking for an option to use piezo's (contact mic's) as a midi trigger.
So far i'm trying to achieve it by using a soundcard (tascam us16) and an Enntec mk2.
But i'm not able to receive a signal from the piezo in the interactions.
Any help is welcome!

Thanks

Stijn

Controlling Spyder FROM Millumin

We are looking to control a Spyder X20 from Millumin via string command. The Spyder requires the a header followed by commands. There are null values that need to be included in the header. The documentation can be found at these two links:

kb.vistasystems.net/Attachment76.aspx?AttachmentType=1

http://kb.vistasystems.net/KnowledgebaseArticle50052.aspx

We are able to see in the Spyder log files that the commands are being received, but Spyder is complaining about a bad header. Considering that null values are required, what is the exact syntax that we should be using?

Nvidia GPU Direct

Hello!
NVidia GPUDirect is a technology for efficiently transfer video frames in and out of NVIDIA GPU memory.
This technology massively lower the latency of Video capture cards.
Most of IO board manufacturers has already integrated this technology inside it's drivers.
Does millumin support this technology as it is integrated into manufacturers SDKs?
This could be heaven for Hackintosh users and external GPU boxes for Real MACs.
More info available here:
Thanks!

Question/Feature Request

Is there a way to add a column anywhere but the end of a layer that I'm missing? In setting up the playback for a show the director has a habit of moving things around and deciding she wants to add elements/blackouts that weren't in the original plan, which currently means that I have to add a column to the end and then move every individual element (and its column setting) over by one- usually multiple times.

So, if I'm just completely daft and missing how to do it could someone please clue me in? And if it isn't currently possible, could it please be added? Thanks!

Hi, im testing Millumin,  I ussualy  work as video technician at events and play teathers , i wonder if someone  tested Millumin with a datapath x4? the  matrox triplehead works fine but if i need a big resolution datapath x4 offers until 4k resolutions if I am not mistaken, and the combination between Millumin and Datapath can be incredible if really works as i think.

I am sure this has been discussed but I cannot locate it by searching the forum.

I am running a pretty simple show with 1 output at 3840x1080 and 1 at 1920x1080.

I am getting a block of pixels that drop out after the software has been running for an hour or two. It is not always in the same output.

Only fix is to completely exit out of Millumin and then restart the application.  Once I had to reboot the computer completely.

Currently running 2.17.q
